Spring 2023 | tri-state golfer 45 over the fear of the technology part of it. That was kind of a small roadblock for us at first, but once we got people up there and they were having a good time and they learned it wasn’t hard at all to set up an account and then track their stats on Toptracer, they warmed up pretty quickly. We still probably have a ways to go there, but we feel like we put a good dent into the number of people who are using it.” Applecross CC Eric MacCluen discussed Toptracer’s benefits for the club’s members and their guests. “First and foremost, being able to gauge your distances for a 50- to 75-yard shot is so important,” said MacCluen. “Your scoring shots are your shorter irons. Everybody would like to be able to hit a 2-iron, but the reality is that if you get your wedge shot closer to the hole, you’re going to lower your scores. Knowing exactly what your swing feels like if you have to hit the ball 50 yards or 60 yards or 75 yards is a wonderful thing. To be able to hit a shot and then turn around and instantly see the distance is huge.” Toptracer has helped MacCluen as an instructor as well. “Being able to gauge your trajectory is really important as well,” said MacCluen. “If you hit a 9-iron appropriately it will have a certain launch angle. Most people’s launch angle is way too high. Being able to hit a shot and see the launch angle right away is awesome. It’s great information to be able to use in your range session. They may not know how to change the launch angle, but at least they know where they’re at. Then, it’s our job to show them ways to increase it or decrease it depending on what they need to do.” MacCluen has seen a variety of Applecross CC members embracing the Toptracer technology. “The guys who kind of got addicted to it in the fall, they’re pretty good players so that told me something right there,” said MacCluen. “When a low handicap player enjoys playing simulated golf that means they must feel that it’s very accurate. And for the juniors, they love getting on there and being able to know how far they hit the ball with each club. It’s so important to know the truth rather than to guess.” Watters, Harte and MacCluen all expressed their optimism about the increase in usage as more and more members grow comfortable with Toptracer and their gratitude that the Talamore family continues to find unique ways to offer its members an unparalleled private club experience. “Our owner has invested a lot of money over the years,” said Harte. “We’re always reinventing here and staying ahead of the trends.” For more information about the Talamore family of clubs, visit talamore. com.
